AWARDS AND HONORS NORMAN, Okla. (Oct. 13, 2006) – The University of Oklahoma’s Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication and the JayMac Alumni Association inducted broadcaster John Brooks, newspaper publisher Leland Gourley and public relations executive Linda Pavlik into its ranks of distinguished alumni on Friday, Oct. 13. About the Award Winners Linda Pavlik’s career includes more than 30 years as a communications specialist, having served the past 24 years as president of Pavlik and Associates. She established Pavlik and Associates in 1983, specializing in marketing, public relations and promotion in public/private cooperative ventures. The firm assists governmental entities, companies, associations, non-profit organizations, program directors and/or individuals seeking higher profiles, through community consensus and the identification of and communication with specific audiences in the marketplace. Before forming her own company, Pavlik was vice president/general manager of another Texas-based public relations/advertising company. She established the first Fort Worth/Tarrant County news bureau for the Dallas Times Herald with the responsibility for news gathering for round-the-clock cycles of the major regional daily. Pavlik’s other newspaper experience includes five years at the Fort Worth Star-Telegram where she was a political writer and investigative reporter. Star-Telegram editors nominated her for the Pulitzer Prize two consecutive years, and she won numerous state and national awards for investigative reporting and public service in journalism. She was also owner/publisher of a community newspaper for three years. Pavlik and Associates was honored with two Bronze Quill awards at the 2003 International Association of Business Communicators Awards Luncheon.
